One of the benefits of staying at InterContinental Hotels Group properties has been the ability to get cashback for your stays. The cashback amount has varied between the sites, but has usually been anywhere from 6% to 20% .
The cashback for IHG was withdrawn on most of the websites during the month of May starting with the ones outside of the United States first. This is bad for me personally as well. I have earned thousands of dollars cashback for my IHG stays over the years and it has been one of the benefits at staying at their hotels.
I have had readers emailing and asking if there still is a cashback site that would work for IHG.
I have now made few clicks through MyPoints.com and they award 5 points per USD for IHG. The reservations appear to be tracking just fine after your stays.
Thing to note here is that this is not universal 5% cashback, but you rather earn MyPoints points that you can later convert to i.e. gift cards or United miles.
$100 Marriott gift card would cost you 12,600 points valuing a point at around 0.8 cents, if we value Marriott gift card at its face value. The 5 points per USD would thus translate to 4% cashback.
5,000 United miles would set you back 11,100 points. If we conservatively value United mile at 1.6 cents each, this would generate 3.6% cashback.
You can sign up for MyPoints here or you can send me an email with your name and I can then send you an invitation to join. If I sent you an invitation, we both earn 750 bonus MyPoints as long as you make a purchase of more than $20 within 90 day of enrollment.
I hope that the regular cashback for InterContinental Hotels Group would return to the usual sites such as MrRebates and TopCashback. You can get close to 4% cashback by going through the MyPoints route, but I would prefer getting paid by PayPal.
