EVA Air finally joined the Star Alliance yesterday on June 18th and the official joining ceremonies with the flight attendants from member airlines posing in front of one of the EVA’s planes took place at the Taipei’s Taoyuan airport.
Members of EVA’s Infinity MileageLands frequent flier program can start earning and using miles on other Star Alliance airlines (check those eligible fare classes carefully!) and vice versa.
The Star Alliance Silver and Gold benefits now apply for flights operated by EVA Air. Gold members can check in at the business class counters regardless of the class of service flown, get extra luggage allowance and lounge access.
If you are planning to fly on EVA and you are crediting the flights to your home frequent flier program, you should carefully check the eligible fare classes. As is often the case with Asian airlines, the number of miles that you earn on discounted tickets is rather low. The chart above represent the number of miles that you earn on United’s program for flights taken with EVA.
This is a good addition to the Star Alliance and Taipei is a very nice and modern city to visit. The other Taiwanese airline China Airlines is member of the rival SkyTeam alliance.
