Hilton Japan 50% Off Sale For 50 Hours (Tuesday 25 To Thursday 27)

Hilton is celebrating its 50th anniversary in Japan by offering 50% discount for 50 hours at their 10 Japanese properties. This sale starts on Tuesday June 25 at 8PM Japanese time and ends on Thursday 27th at 10PM Japanese time. The discount is eligible for stays up to March 31, 2014. This offer requires prepayment and is non-refundable/non-cancelable.

Edit: I have corrected the starting and end dates of this sale.

Note that the website for this offer is entirely in Japanese, but what I am able to gather just staring at the YEN pricing, the prices are quite attractive.

United Award Ticket Success: From GLA (Glasgow) To KOK (Kokkola) Via DUS/OSL/ARN

For the past two weeks, I have been doing a Scotland city tour (need to do the Loch Ness at some other time) and earlier this week needed to find a way to west coast to Finland for my grandmothers 85th birthday for this coming week.

I was originally thinking of burning some of my BA Avios and do a RFS (reward flight saver) to Helsinki with a stopover in London, but couldn’t get very good flight times to Helsinki. I would have arrived very late, spend a night at the airport hotel or trek to the city center and sleep on a friends sofa, and then take a train to for few hours the following day.

Paid Upgrades At Hotels & Airlines (NY Times Piece)

There is an article in the travel section of the New York Times today (Sunday 23) about paid upgrades that the hotels and airlines are offering and yours truly was interviewed for it (you can read the piece here).

I have written about the paid upgrades at Club Carlson, Hyatt and Hilton hotels times in the past (all these three companies are using the same technology provider called Nor1) and my experience with the Optiontown that Vietnam Airlines uses for their upgrades.
