Qatar Airways just announced that they are shuffling around the booking class alphabet structure on October 1, 2013, in anticipation of joining the Oneworld Alliance. You can read more about this on Qatar’s website here.
I wrote two weeks ago that Qatar representative had disclosed that the joining date would be sometime this coming October (you can read the piece here) and this change further proves that this is likely the case.
Qatar Airways will soon be officially joining oneworld® and in view of this, effective 1st July 2013, Privilege Club will undergo a few changes in our booking class structure in order to align with the oneworld carriers.
Qpoints earned based on the current booking class structure will be applicable for travel only up to 30th September 2013. Qpoints will be earned based on the corresponding new booking class structure for travel from 1st October 2013 onwards. See Qpoints table below for details.
So, Qatar Airways will at some point map the reservations that are for travel on or after October 1st, 2013, to the new corresponding booking codes and you should receive the same number of Qpoints and Qmiles, as at the time of traveling was shown for your itinerary.

These fare booking class mappings from alphabet to other should happen fairly smoothly as long as QR is not changing the GDS that they use. Alliances tend to have standardized codes for first, business and economy and for full vs. discounted fares.
Let’s hope that there are no roadblocks and that Qatar would join the alliance this coming October.
