LoyaltyLobby reader sent me an email about the problems he had recently experiences at the Mercure Santo Domingo hotel in Madrid, while taking advantage of the recent 2,000 bonus points Mercure promo (you can read more about the promo here).
The previous guest had left the in-room safe locked and it had taken three phone calls over several hours to get someone to unlock it. The internet had not been working during the entire stay.
Reader had complained to Accor and had requested 6,000 points that would have been enough for a free night at similarly priced Accor hotel (2,000 points = 40 euro voucher).
The hotel had offered a future free night + 1,000 points for the inconvenience that the reader had accepted.
I think that this was a fair offer from the hotel as long as the reader is able to use the offered free night without hassles. This should yield a nice upgrade too.
There is definitely more problems now with hotel internet compared to past. I don’t think that hotels have enough bandwidth considering that this free internet movement is spreading and all of us are using the net using multiple devices and more people are streaming content or using bandwidth hungry applications.
