Virgin Atlantic’s Flying Club has an economy award sale for routes between London Heathrow to/from North American destinations in United States and Canada.
This offer is valid for new bookings made between September 6-20, 2013, for travel until the end of schedule.
For this promotions, the Virgin Atlantic has fixed the number of miles required for economy return at 25,000 miles regardless of the North American destination. Virgin Atlantic also recently lowered the fuel surcharges that are charged on award tickets.
Previously, redeeming Virgin Atlantic miles for economy awards made no sense at all due to much of the fare being the fuel surcharge component.
You can access this offer in Virgin’s UK website here. For some reason, it doesn’t open up on the US site.
Here’s Example for London to Los Angeles Economy Return

Airlines have started to realize that it makes no sense for passengers to redeem for long-haul economy due to fuel surcharges and have started to implement capped fees.
Air France-KLM first introduced this and Virgin Atlantic shortly followed. Now, British Airways is planning to implement something similar.
