Etihad & Virgin Australia Promotion: Double Miles For Economy & Triple For Business/First

Etihad and Virgin Australia have both launched promotions for double miles in economy/premium economy and triple miles for business/first.

This offer is valid for flights taken between October 5 and November 30, 2013. You need to register for the Etihad (access here) or Virgin Australia (access here) version of the offer by October 31.

Etihad Guest version:

The offer is valid for all Etihad operated and marketed flights. Flights marketed by code share partners and operated by Etihad are not eligible.

Virgin Australia flights to/from Los Angeles are not eligible in addition to domestic Virgin Australia flights.

The Etihad Guest account must be in Australia to be eligible for the bonus miles.

Virgin Australia version:

Virgin Australia flights numbers VA29, VA30, VA7000-7499 and all Etihad operated and marketed flights are eligible for double or triple miles.

There doesn’t seem to be an Australian address requirement for the Virgin Australia version of this offer.

Conclusion

It is common for airlines to offer bonus miles shortly after their partnership has been formed. Virgin Australia tries to tunnel their European traffic via Abu Dhabi, while Qantas does this with Emirates via Dubai.

This offer is exclusive to Etihad Guest members based in Australia. Bonus miles promotion is only valid for bookings made between 1 October and 31 October for travel between 5 October and 30 November 2013. Bonus miles will be earned on all Etihad operated flights and Virgin Australia flights to Abu Dhabi. Bonus miles cannot be earned on Virgin Australia domestic flights. The bonus miles earned will depend on the destination booked. Bonus miles will be offered only for those guest members who have registered their Etihad Guest membership number on the landing page mentioned above. This offer is not valid on Virgin Australia flights to Los Angeles.The bonus miles will not be offered on any other code share flights and redemption flights. The bonus miles earned will be Etihad Guest Miles and not Tier Miles. The bonus miles will be credited within three weeks after the promotion ends. To be eligible for the bonus Points promotion (double Points for Economy and Premium Economy, triple Points for Business and First), you must successfully register your Velocity membership number online between 1   31 October 2013 and ensure it matches the membership number in your flight booking.

You must travel on an eligible Virgin Australia and/or Etihad Airways flight between 5 October – 30 November 2013 inclusive. Codeshare services marketed or operated by partner airlines other than Virgin Australia or Etihad Airways are not eligible for this offer. This offer is valid for flights VA29, VA30, VA7000-7499 and any Etihad Airways operated flight with an EY flight number. Bonus Points earned are in addition to any Points ordinarily earned and will be applied to base Points only. Any applicable tier bonus earned will not attract bonus Points as a result of this offer. Bonus Points will be applied to the originally purchased fare class and any upgrades will not attract bonus Points as a result of this offer.

Points cannot be earned on Velocity Reward Seat bookings. Your Velocity Frequent Flyer number must be recorded at the time of registration. Each passenger must register separately to be eligible for the offer.

First Class is only available on selected Etihad Airways operated flights.

You should allow up to 4 weeks after the travel period for the bonus Points to be allocated. Retrospective claims are eligible for this promotion if received within 60 days of the end of the travel period. For successful retrospective claims please allow 4 weeks from the time the flight appears in your membership account for the bonus Points to be allocated.
