Delta SkyMiles Award Level Name Changes

LoyaltyLobby reader sent me an email yesterday regarding the renaming of Delta’s award levels. He wanted to know if there is a reason for this change.

Delta used to name award levels as Low, Medium and High. After the change on September 25, these are called Saver, Standard and Peak.

There has not been any changes on number of miles required for these different award types. The name change is likely due to Delta trying to signal that the old Medium level should be the standard and not the old Low or the new Saver.

Delta was going to move to a revenue based program that I wrote about last year (access the piece here). The development seems to be delayed, but this program is not canned.
