Qatar Airways officially joins the Oneworld alliance on October 30, 2013. Traditionally Oneworld frequent fliers have received double miles for the entrants flight for two month period and vice versa.
This tradition continues with the joining of the Qatar Airways into the Oneworld alliance.
Qatar Airways Privilege Club members can earn double Qmiles on Oneworld alliance partner airlines’ flights between November 15 and December 20, 2013, and January 5 and 31, 2014. The double miles offer ends for Cathay Pacific flights on January 24, 2014, a week earlier than with other partners.
Frequent flier members of airberlin, American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Finnair, Iberia, Japan Airlines, LAN, Malaysia Airlines, Qantas, Royal Jordanian, and S7 Airlines including 30 affiliate airlines, will earn double miles for the same period from November 15 to December 20, 2013, and January 5 and 31, 2014. Members of Cathay Pacific’s AsiaMiles can earn double miles until January 24, 2014.
Note that you need to register for airline specific offers in order to earn the double miles and I don’t yet have those links available.
Also, you have to be careful with eligible fare classes for mileage accrual if you are flying on Qatar Airways economy class and crediting to partner airlines. The partner airlines earning charts for Qatar and Qatar’s for Oneworld alliance airlines should be available hopefully sometime tomorrow.
Doha Lounge Access
Oneworld Sapphire and Emerald members do not have access to Qatar’s Premium Terminal and can only access the premium check in and lounge facilities at the main terminal IF flying in economy. It is interesting to see how this will change once the greatly delayed new airport finally opens sometime in 2014.
The joining of Qatar Airways to Oneworld alliance from the implementation point of view has been very fast. Usually this process takes from 18 to 24 months, but Qatar completed the requirements in just 12 months time.
Yours truly is flying on Qatar Airways tomorrow and crediting the flights to American Airlines AAdvantage. I will keep you updated if there are any problems with crediting the flights.
