American Airlines Gold-Status Member Main Cabin Extra Access Extension & Policy Change

American Airlines announced their MCE (Main Cabin Extra) product on March 1, 2012 (read more here) and the Gold AAdvantage member complimentary access to it was supposed to come to an end on December 31, 2013.

Now, American Airlines has sent the email below (thanks for LoyaltyLobby reader for forwarding it to me) to Gold members about the access policy change that is actually beneficial:

AAdvantage Gold members will have the access to MCE until February 28, 2014 (two month extension) and the following part is new:

Gold members and Oneworld equivalent (Ruby) can purchase it at 50% discount OR have access to free MCE seats 24-hours before departure (likely at the check in).

Executive Platinum and Platinum members and their Oneworld equivalent (Sapphire & Emerald) will continue have access to the MCE at the time of booking.

You can access American Airlines web page for this MCE product here.

This change is beneficial for AAdvantage Gold and Oneworld Ruby members that will continue having complimentary access to MCE seats at the 24-hour mark before departure OR can confirm those seats in advance at 50% discount.
