Delta SkyMiles Award Chart Changes (Second Time In Three Months)

Delta made the following announcement for the members of FlyerTalk about an hours ago (access the post here).

delta-devaluation

Delta made an announcement on August 15 that the number of miles required for business class awards would go up for travel on or after June 1, 2014 (read my take here).

Now that United made their own adjustment exactly a week ago (read more here), Delta must think that it is good time to piggy back and make a more drastic customer unfriendly adjustments for their award chart at the same time.

The new award charts are not up yet. I will have a comprehensive post detailing the differences once Delta releases the new award chart for past February 1, 2014 travel.

Conclusion

Delta seems to be getting greedy and cannot pass the opportunity to even more severely devalue their award chart after the United’s move last week.

The fact that the change is effective IMMEDIATELY for award travel past February 1, 2014, is a very bad and unfriendly move.

United has the old pricing effective until January 31, 2014, and you can book as far as the schedle is open and the award inventory exists.
