Delta made later Friday afternoon announcement (read more here) about further changes to their award carts that would be in effect immediately for travel after February 1, 2014.
The previous devaluation announcement was done in August (read more here) and it was in effect for award travel after June 1, 2014.
I have now compiled a side by side comparison that you can find below. The left column shows the current (low level) business class award one-way price.
The second column (Business From Feb 1, 2014) shows the requirement that was announced yesterday that is in effect immediately for travel after February 1. I have noted the number of miles and the percentage change up in RED.
The business from June 1, 2014, shows the previously announced changes + the ones announced yesterday. Those changes that are not noted in on the second column, won’t be in effect for travel before or on May 31, 2014.
Note that I only made this chart for business class awards and didn’t include some intra-country/region awards that Delta has available as well. I am sure that some of those went up as well.
I wish that I would have something positive to say about this change but I don’t.
How on earth Delta felt that they needed to further devalue their award charts, when it is less than three months before their latest devaluation?
This shows very poor planning on Delta’s part and how little forward looking thinking they do. It almost seems that they did this ad hoc due to United’s devaluation last week. I am surprised that they didn’t release the announcement on Christmas eve at 9PM, but rather late on Friday afternoon.
