There was an interesting piece on Bloomberg about Lufthansa’s new approach to first class that tries to prevent it becoming an upgrade class (read more here).
Lufthansa has reduced their fleet that has the first class seats better to suite the market demand for the service.
There is very interesting tidbit on the article about the number of first class passengers daily that is around 700 compared to number of total daily passenger count (200,000).
Lufthansa has also started to offer restricted first class fares aimed at leisure travelers that has helped with the demand. Also,most employees are now banned from flying first class on business trips.
Lufthansa has very old fashioned first class service that used to be widely available using points, but has become more restrictive, as the size of the first cabin has shrunk and the number of destinations the first class is available.
