Marriott “No Blackout Dates” Property Update

Marriott has made a change to the “No Blackout Dates” property list by adding all the Boscolo hotels that are part of the Autograph Collection.

I have never quite understood Marriott’s “No Blackout Dates”policy and I do think that it is highly misleading.

This “No Blackout Dates” merely means that there are no chain-wide blackout dates mandated by the Marriott, but that individual properties can indeed have dates when award rooms are not made available. They do have to get permission from Marriott corporate for these dates, however, and they can last for weeks at a time.

Marriott doesn’t also mandate that award rooms must be available if property is selling their standard rooms. The hotel just needs to make the certain minimum percentage of rooms available as awards.

Marriott should stop advertising “No Blackout Dates” policy when, if fact, they do exist.
