Etihad Buys 33.3% Of Darwin Airline To Be Rebranded As Etihad Regional

Etihad seems to be on buying spree. They recently bought stake on Air Serbia and also have equity investments on number of airlines such as airberlin and Virgin Australia.

Now, Etihad is buying one third of Darwin Airline, Swiss based regional airline, and it will change its name to Etihad Regional, which is a bold move. You can read more about this tie up on WSJ here.

Etihad Regional will extend its network to many of the cities that Etihad flies in Europe. The airline will also start codesharing not just with Etihad but with airberlin and Air Serbia as well.

Only time will tell, if Etihad’s approach to expansion is the correct one. They seem to be buying stakes on number of airlines in hope that they will strengthen Etihad’s overall network.

Seems that the Etihad Guest Gold status is slowly becoming more valuable.
