Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan members can earn elite qualifying miles and segments on all partners airlines starting January 15, 2014.
Currently elite qualifying miles can be earned on AeroMexico, Air France, American Airlines, Delta, Emirates, KLM & LAN, but not on British Airways, Korean, Cathay Pacific, Qantas and Fiji Airways (previously Air Pacific).
You have to bear in mind that Alaska doesn’t belong to any alliance and that only American Airlines and Delta are offering any benefits for Alaska Mileage Plan elite members.
With all the other partner airlines there are no benefits such as extra baggage allowance, expedited security, lounge access etc. that elite members from alliance partner airlines would have come to expect.
You can access Alaska’s website for this announcement here.
This is welcomed change for Alaska Airlines frequent fliers.
The change makes earning status on Alaska easier than before, but I could never have this airline as my first choice due to its mainly west coast network and non-alliance status.
