United Cuts Free Booze From Asia Flights In Economy

United made an announcement couple of weeks ago that they were cutting pretzels from economy (read more here) and Delta announced that alcoholic beverages would be complimentary in all of their BusinessElite equipped long-haul flights (read more here).

Now, United is again taking a step backwards by cutting complimentary beer, wine and sake from all flights to/from and within Asia, where these have still been complimentary.

Pacific market
All United Economy beer, wine, sparkling wine and sake in the Pacific market will no longer be complimentary. We are confident that our overall product remains competitive in this market.

The above part of a memo was leaked to FlyerTalk (access here).

This is really bad move from United’s part. Do they really think that the fliers that choose United absolutely have no other choices or don’t know better?

I sometimes choose to have a drink or two (sometimes more and often nothing). The cost of providing beer, wine and sake must be negligible. All the Asian carriers are offering full complimentary bar service and Delta does it too.
