Avios is a UK based shopping program with the same points currency as British Airways and Iberia Plus Avios. As a matter of fact, you can transfer Avios between these three different accounts. Avios, however, requires you to have an UK address.
Avios has now reduced the number of miles required for eight long-haul destinations in economy by 50%, but you have to pay the very high fuel surcharges and taxes.
You have until 11:59PM GMT on January 8, 2014, to book these and the travel must be completed by May 31, 2014.

Conclusion
Booking any of these long-haul destinations at 50% off, but having to pay very high fees, only makes sense if the fares are really high. The reward flight savers with 1GBP cash component is a good deal, if you have use for European flights.
