Thai Airways often swaps planes but rarely from the A380 with their flagship fist class product to the old 747.
A LoyaltyLobby reader was flying from Bangkok to Hong Kong on an award ticket issued by US Airways. Due to the chaos in Bangkok, Thai Airways has chosen to fly smaller 747 instead of A380 on the route.
Reader has asked to speak with Duty Manager while on the first class lounge. The manager had offered to move the passenger to Emirates or Cathay Pacific on the ticketed class (first), but the timing of these flights would not have been convenient.
The passenger was then offered 9,000 THB as a compensation (about $275) that he accepted.
It is usually a lottery with Thai Airways on which first class product you end up flying with, as the airline can swap between the planes on a whim.
There is nothing wrong for asking compensation from being downgraded from Thai’s flagship product to an old first class seat that is more inline what other airlines are offering as business class.
