USA Today reported (access here) that Hilton will introduce a faster paid internet tier to its Hampton Inn, Hilton Garden Inn, Homewood Suites and Home 2 Suites properties that currently are offering free internet to everyone.
This new faster option will cost $3.95 and allow three simultaneous connections by the user. It is unclear if this faster option is complimentary for Hilton HHonors Gold and Diamond members. I have requested clarification from Hilton spokesperson.
I reported on December 15, 2013, about the change that Hilton had made to its terms and conditions about the complimentary internet (read the piece here). You can access the Hilton HHonors T&C’s here.
At the time I wrote:
Seems that Hilton properties maybe about to introduce tiered internet access and the “high speed” one would no longer be complimentary for Hilton HHonors Gold or Diamond members.
Working and fast internet is not an option for hotels. It is something that they should have. Why wouldn’t they just spend the money and upgrade the connection that would allow them to offer speedy internet for all?
Earlier this week, I had to cut my stay short by two days at InterContinental Thalasso in Bora Bora, as their internet was so unreliable (worked for 5 minutes then down for 10) that I couldn’t get anything done. Their sister property about a kilometer away has just fine connection (writing from Le Moana now).
I would be pissed if Hilton wouldn’t offer this faster (read working) internet connection complimentary to its Gold and Diamond members.
