Update On: Hilton To Introduce Faster Paid Wi-Fi Tier

Last week, I wrote about Hilton’s new paid premium Wi-Fi offering at Hilton Garden Inn, Homewood Suites and Home2 Suite properties (access the piece here).

Here’s what I wrote:

This new faster option will cost $3.95 and allow three simultaneous connections by the user. It is unclear if this faster option is complimentary for Hilton HHonors Gold and Diamond members. I have requested clarification from Hilton spokesperson.

Here’s the response from Hilton (note that Hilton provided an updated statement after I published this piece):

“We know that our Gold and Diamond members value HHonors complimentary internet access and we have no intentions of removing this benefit. We are simply adding this paid premium access for those who require more bandwidth to download larger files and stream high definition media. Once rolled out, we will consider how to make this premium option available to our most elite members.”

“We know that our Gold and Diamond members value HHonors complimentary internet access and we have no intentions of removing this benefit through the tiered internet program. We are simply adding this paid premium access for those who require more bandwidth to download larger files and stream high definition media.” – Mark Weinstein, vice president, Hilton HHonors, Hilton Worldwide

So, seems that it is not going to be comped for Gold and Diamond members for now but could be in the future.

Conclusion

Let’s hope that Hilton does the right thing and comps this faster paid option for Gold and Diamond members.
