IHG Rewards Club Terms & Conditions Change: “Travel Industry Discount Rate” No Longer Listed As Ineligible

Most of the hotel chains are offering discounts for travel agents and/or to the travel industry members (airline employees etc). Often these rates are deeply discounted, but not always available.

IHG has had the “Travel Industry Discount Rate” listed as ineligible for points or night credit, but this has now changed.

You can access IHG’s web page for travel agents here.

WARNING: Do not book this rate unless you have valid IATA issued ID or travel agent ID card. The ID requirements are very strictly enforced.

IHG Rewards Club has removed this rate from the list of rates ineligible for points. The following rates are still ineligible:

Points are not issued for stays at the following reduced room rates (Non-Qualifying Room Rates; Non-Qualifying Stay): net wholesale individual and group rate, certain package rates, employee discount rate, friends and family rate, crew rate, special discounted contract rates, seasonal worker/crew rate, 50% travel club discount rate, distressed passenger rate, IHG® Rewards Club Reward Nights/Airline Hotel Reward rate, most rates booked through most third-party web sites, complimentary hotel stays and any other rates not defined as a Qualifying Room Rate.

It would be great if IHG has decided to make this rate plan eligible for points and night credit.

Travel agents are not always familiar with hotel loyalty programs and maybe this would help getting them to know the IHG Rewards Club program better.

I will probably check the posting of this rate plan in the next few days, as I have valid IATA issued ID.
