Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) & Virgin Australia Velocity Partnership

SPG and Virgin Australia velocity have finally publicized the partnership that has been making since last fall and which I wrote about in September (access my previous piece here).

You can now direct deposit the points that you earn from SPG stays directly to your Virgin Australia Velocity account. This option, however, makes no sense at all. What you should do is to convert the Starpoints in the chunks of 20,000 Starpoints to 25,000 Virgin Australia Velocity points.

You can access Virgin Australia’s web page for this announcement here and SPG’s here.

Conclusion

It is surprising that it took six months for SPG and Virgin Australia to finalize this deal that was briefly shown on SPG’s website back in September. It is always good to have more airline partners, although Virgin Australia Velocity points don’t make too much sense outside of Oceania.
