Whine Wednesdays: Amenity Wine


Amenity wine, anyone? I again had a red wine bottle waiting for me and this time at a Crowne Plaza hotel, where it is an unusual sight.


A LoyaltyLobby reader wrote me about this subject earlier in the week. The wine for him is more of a headache as he doesn’t drink, but prefer not leave the bottles behind. Then he has to cart the bottles around and find a friend or friendly airline check-in employee to give them to.

My headache with the amenity wines are that they are sometimes undrinkable. The photo above is from Conrad Koh Samui that had the worst tasting amenity red wine ever. I was able to turn it to tasty sangria by mixing it with ice and lemon iced tea.

I don’t usually check the labels of the wines, but I would imagine that they are some leftover wine from hotel’s restaurants and could be bought for $5 to $10 at retail or less.


It is always a nice touch from a hotel to have a bottle of red wine waiting in the room or suite, although my personal preference would be champagne.

So, what do you do with the amenity wines? Drink, take or just leave behind?
