Marriott Rewards has revised the benefits associated with the Silver, Gold and Platinum status.
The text about he free internet for Silver, Gold and Platinum members in the Asia-Pacific has been removed altogether. The internet is now free for all rewards members regardless of status in APAC.
You can access Marriott Rewards Elite Member terms and conditions here.
The following change is more interesting:
Marriott Rewards has made the “Premium Internet” free at all participating Marriott brands and Ritz-Carlton hotels in the United States and Canada.
This is contrary to recent Hilton HHonors free internet changes where the premium internet offered is explicitly not comped for elite members. You can read more about the Hilton high-speed internet woes here.
It is the right thing to do to offer the premium (usually the working version) complimentary for Gold and Platinum members. SPG has been offering the premium version free for Platinum members already for a while.
So, if you are staying at Marriott family of hotels in North America that is offering a premium tiered internet option, just go ahead and choose it. The front desk should remove it. If they are unwilling to do that, just ask them to reread the Gold & Platinum member benefit terms and conditions.
