American Airlines introduced Dynamic Air Awards several years ago that were benefit for having Gold, Platinum or Executive Platinum status with the airline.

American Airlines Dynamic Air Awards Discontinued

American Airlines has decided to end this program effective April 1, 2014.

You can access AA’s web page for this announcement here.

Dynamic Air Awards will no longer be available for award bookings, beginning April 1, 2014, (12:00 a.m. CT). We regret any inconvenience and will continue to honor all bookings made before April 1, 2014. Please remember, we are unable to accommodate any changes to booked itineraries. As an AAdvantage elite status member, we are committed to bringing you exceptional travel options and more opportunities to earn and redeem miles. Visit aa.com/aadvantage for the latest offerings and program enhancements.

Dynamic Air Awards means that the price in miles is tied to the actual going price of the ticket and this has usually been extremely bad deal. It could have worked for your favor only if the price of the paid ticket is really low and the trip is in the next few days as there is no express charge to process this award type.

The all inclusive paid fare is just $59 and the Dynamic Air Awards would require 10,000 miles + $2.50.

Conclusion

It is always good to have several award options and, in that sense it, is sad to see this option to go. I would have never ever used this, as I prefer to purchase the tickets in cash if the fares are low and only use miles for flights in premium cabins or between otherwise expensive non-competitive city pairs.
