This week Compensation Clinic pays a visit to Crowne Plaza Detroit where a LoyaltyLobby reader was facing check in woes during the auto show Saturday that happened to collide with a hockey game.

When the reader was trying to check in at 6PM he was faced with the longest ever check in line. Crowne Plaza hotels are supposed to have IHG Rewards Club Gold or Platinum check in line, but this hotel didn’t have one.

The reader asked to speak with MOD (Manager On Duty) and ended up chatting with the front desk supervisor that advised him that they didn’t have rooms ready as they were turning them all for the night. The reader was given two drink chits for the hotel bar.

The reader was faced with 25 minute wait for the hotel breakfast the following morning.

The reader asked for 10,000 points and free valet parking for the inconveniences experienced during the stay and that was granted by the property. The reader was satisfied with the resolution as he had booked it while the property was on the Point Breaks.

Conclusion

If you are faced with a check in line such as the one on the photo above, just walk to the concierge desk and ask to speak with an MOD. The property should have had Gold/Platinum member expedited check in line.

The property was obviously short staffed on its housekeeping department for the weekend in question that show poor planning on its part.

At the end, the property did the right thing and issued the points and waived the valet to keep the customer happy.
