Thai Airways has just started two separate award discount campaigns. One requires ticket purchase and the other one doesn’t.
You can get 25% discount off of economy round trip award on Thai between March 20 and June 30, 2014. You can purchase this award online and you will receive 25% refund after the promotional period is over (you need to pay full miles upfront).
You can access Thai Airways web page for this promotion here.
The 50% award discount requires one traveler to purchase a paid ticket on Thai and you can then redeem one award at 50% off. Both travelers must travel on the same flight outbound. This award cannot be booked online, but only via Thai reservations office or city ticket office.
Note that you end up paying hefty fuel surcharges on the award ticket.
This offer may work for some, but I would have rather seen the award discount extended to business and first class awards as well. Redeeming for economy class with airlines that charge fuel surcharges rarely make any sense.
Here are the terms and conditions of this offer:
All travel must commence within the promotion period and be completed by 30 June 2014. Valid on THAI operated flights only. Discounted Award tickets can be redeemed for member-self or Award Nominees. No mileage re-credit or re-routing is permitted on discounted Award tickets. 50% discounted Economy Class Award tickets can only be redeemed in conjunction with a paid ticket. The revenue ticket holder and award ticket holder must travel together on the outbound flight. Travel date change permitted with fee. Black out for discounted Award travel on Thailand public holidays and Songkran during the promotion period.
