Delta has been building up Seattle as its gateway to Asia and has increased flying up and down the west coast as well. This must have gotten Alaska upset that has Seattle as its main hub.
Delta and Alaska both announced yesterday changes to benefits that each others frequent fliers receive. These come to effect on tickets issued after or flights taken after April 30, 2014.
You can access Alaska’s web page for Elite benefits when flying on Delta here and Delta’s web page for elite benefits when flying on Alaska here.
MVP Benefits On Delta Flights
The main benefits reduction is the complimentary bags for MVP Gold and Gold 75’s. MVP members also receive the one complimentary bag. This benefits applies to all tickets issued before or on April 30, 2014.
Delta Medallion Benefits On Alaska Flights
Delta Medallions also lose the complimentary luggage allowance on Alaska flights as well as the Priority Security access
Conclusion
It wouldn’t surprise anyone if the partnership would come to a complete end if Delta continues its expansion in Seattle. Alaska has carved nice niche for itself for serving west coast, Hawaii and Mexico with few transcontinental flights thrown in.
