Compensation Clinic pays a visit to the InterContinental Hong Kong (one of the IC flagship properties) for the second time.
If you spend any considerable time at hotels, you will get used to fire alarms going on every once in a while. You are not often required to even leave your room.
You can access InterContinental Hong Kong’s website here.
Here is the email from the reader:
IC HKG. Arrived late the evening before w/ young children (2 rooms), and at around 8am, the fire alarm went off for 10 minutes causing us to get out of bed and get dressed.
As it turned out, when we checked out later that day, they told us it was some kind of tech issue.
An email went unanswered for a few days, so I tweeted them. They offered me an upgrade on a future visit, but I told them that I didn’t know when I’d return, and that I preferred points. They then offered me 20k points.
I must say that I was a tad bit surprised w/ the offer (20k points over 2 rooms is 10k per room), but I had enjoyed e/t else with the hotel.
It doesn’t surprise me that the reader’s email went unanswered and that the hotel didn’t take any action before he sent out a Tweet, as the customer service at this property is generally bad. I am glad that the reader was able to get some points for the technical issue with the fire alarm system.
If you are planning to stay at this property before the construction site next door is finished, be prepared for endless noise issues from morning till night that is really disturbing if you are trying to get any work done or relax inside your room/suite.
