US Travel Association Daily Getaways Week 1

Monday May 19, 2014, at 1PM EST

– Wyndham Rewards 14,000 points for $84 – 500 available –  Max 2 (price per point 0.6 cents)

– Wyndham Rewards 32,000 points for $192 – 450 available – Max 1 (price per point 0.6 cents)

– Wyndham Rewards 75,000 points for $450 – 200 available – Max 1 (price per point 0.6 cents)

– Wyndham Rewards 60,000 points for $350 – 100 available – Max 1 (price per point 0.58 cents)

Last year, many bought Wyndham Rewards points and were thinking of converting them to airline miles. Wyndham Rewards did a major points to airline miles devaluation without any advance notice few weeks later.

– Hertz Gold Plus Rewards 5,500 points for $280 – 45 available – Max 1 & Max 3 across all Hertz offers (price per point 5.1 cents)

– Hertz Gold Plus Rewards 13,200 points for $475 – 35 available –  Max 1 & Max 3 across all Hertz offers (price per point 3.6 cents)

– Hertz Gold Plus Rewards 16,500 points for $775 – 50 available – Max 1 & Max 3 across all Hertz offers (price per point 4.7 cents)

Last year, the prices for Hertz points were in the 4.8 cents range and this year you can buy as low as 3.6 cents if you take the 13,200 points offer. Buying Hertz points can make sense as long as your rental is at expensive location and the date is not during the blackout period. Hertz can often more specific car types to “Dream Collection” that is not bookable using points at all.

– Choice Privileges 40,000 points for $165 – 325 available –  Max 2 & Max 8 across all Choice Privileges offers (price per point 0.41cents)

– Choice Privileges 36,000 points for $175 – 785 available – Max 2 & Max 8 across all Choice Privileges offers (price per point 0.49 cents)

– Choice Privileges 20,000 points for $108 – 216 available – Max 2 & Max 8 across all Choice Privileges offers (price per point 0.54 cents)

These can be good value if you can use them on trips within Europe when it is on sale for 8,000 points per night or if you are after Southwest Companion pass (points to Southwest Rapid Rewards conversion).

Friday May 23, 2014, at 1PM EST

– Hilton HHonors 100,000 points for $550 – 160 available – Max 1 & Max 3 across all Hilton HHonors offers (price per point 0.55 cents)

– Hilton HHonors 150,000 points for $825 – 200 available – Max 1 & Max 3 across all Hilton HHonors offers (price per point 0.55 cents)

– Hilton HHonors 250,000 points for $1.375 – 200 available – Max 1 & Max 3 across all Hilton HHonors offers (price per point 0.55 cents)

Hilton HHonors points were a very good deal two years ago before the great devaluation of 2013. Today, 100K points is only enough for a night at the high end Hilton property.

Conclusion

I would only buy points if you are CERTAIN that you can use them in a meaningful way by the end of the year. Last year, Wyndham Rewards devalued its points to airline miles conversion rate without any prior notice few weeks later after they had sold points via Daily Getaways.
