Avios (UK shopping scheme that is part of the same group as BA and Iberia Avios) has select long-haul destinations at 50% off in economy for travel between October 1 and February 28, 2015. Blackout dates December 18 – January 10.

Avios Long-haul Sale

You need to make the booking by July 13, 2014

You can access this offer on Avios website here.

Avios Long-haul Sale LHR-DXB-LHR

Your 20,000 Avios on this city pair would be worth just $105.06 as most of the fare are fuel surcharges and other taxes and fees. Paid fare would earn you more TP’s and Avios….

Conclusion

Economy award sale at 50% off sounds great, but isn’t once you factor in those nasty fuel surcharges. It would make sense to redeem Avios IF World Traveler Plus would have been included.
