Starwood lost one of its two hotels in Rio De Janeiro that decided to switch under Radisson brand and is now bookable using both points and cash.
Radisson Hotel Barra in Rio de Janeiro is located far away from the Copacabana and Ipanema/Leblon areas where the locals and tourists prefer to spend their time.
You can access Radisson Hotel Barra’s website here.
Look at the rates:
The rates for hotels in Rio de Janeiro are quite high (sometimes totally insane) and using points would be a very wise choice here especially if you are eligible for the 2-4-1 redemption deal (second night free for Club Carlson credit card holders).
I have stayed at this hotel when it was under the Starwood flag and enjoyed my time. As a SPG Platinum member, I received an upgrade to a suite and had club access as well. If my memory is right, I believe that this was two or three years ago during the Rock In Rio festival.
The rates that are currently loaded to Radisson’s website don’t indicate if the club lounge is still open. The lounge access is not Gold or Concierge level benefit anyway.
The location of the hotel is terrible if you prefer spending most of your time in Copacabana or Ipanema/Leblon. The hotel, however, is fine and I liked the pool. Just plan to stay put for couple of days if you choose to stay here.
