Etihad Philippine Airlines Partnership: Earn & Redeem Guest Miles And Double Miles 09/01-10/31

Etihad Airways today announced frequent flier partnership with the flag carrier of the Philippines – Philippine Airlines.

Etihad Guest Philippines Airlines

You can starting today (July 10, 2014) earn and redeem Etihad Guest miles on Philippine Airlines flights. Etihad Guest is offering double award miles for all Philippine Airlines flights between September 1 and October 31, 2014.

You can access Etihad’s announcement for this partnership here.

Note that you won’t earn any Etihad Guest Tier (read status) miles for flights on Philippine Airlines.

Etihad Guest Philippines Airlines Email Body

The email that Etihad sent out hints that there should be some Etihad Guest status related benefits when flying on Philippine Airlines. The problem is that there is no information about these benefits at all. Maybe this is an oversight or the email contains incorrect info?

Eligible Philippine Airlines Fare Classes For Etihad Guest:

You always have to check that the ticketed fare class allows earning partner miles. International flights that are ticketed on E, T, U, O fare classes are not eligible for earning miles on Etihad’s program.

Redeeming Etihad Guest Miles On Philippine Airlines:

As is the case with all Etihad Guest partners, the number of Guest miles required is dependent of the total length of the award segments on the partner airline. The number of miles required for business class awards is double compared to economy ones.

The number of frequent flier partner airlines that Etihad Airways has seems to be ever growing. I could have taken Philippine Airlines flights in the past, but the inability to credit them to any meaningful program has been a deterrent. Good that you can now dump them to Etihad Guest.

Let’s hope that there would be some status benefits for Etihad Guest Gold and Gold Elite members for Philippine Airlines flights. The email was hinting about them as I pointed out above, but no information on Etihad’s website.
