Marriott Rewards Launches FlashPerks & LocalPerks


Marriott Rewards made an announcement today that they are launching FlashPerks on July 17 and Local Perks on July 24.

According to Marriott’s press release, they are targeting “Next Gen” (whatever that mean) travelers with these two initiatives.

Marriott Rewards will have 10 to 15 flash offers per week for 12 weeks at their FlashPerks website starting on July 17, 2014. One of the first offers will be luxury Hertz car rentals for merely 200,000 Marriott Rewards points (insane) or accommodation package at the JW Marriott Marquis hotel in Dubai.

LocalPerks requires you to download a special app and the hotel will beam you offers based on your location within the hotel. This will be launched on July 24, 2014, at the San Diego Marriott Marquis.

Beginning July 17, Marriott Rewards will begin offering weekly deals, including limited time offers on merchandise, hotel rooms and experiences available at  For 12 weeks, Marriott Rewards will add about 10-15 flash offers each week, with each offer lasting for a limited time or until it is sold out.  Among the first offers, members can access Hertz Dream Cars rentals in Miami choosing from sport, luxury and exotic vehicles for 200,000 points or a luxurious escape to the JW Marriott Marquis Dubai, the world’s tallest hotel, for 50 percent off executive suites plus 20 percent off at the spa and free lounge access.

As the first loyalty program in the hospitality industry to utilize Beacon technology,Marriott Rewards’ LocalPerks, offers exclusive, localized experiences including food & beverage, golf, and spa deals to members. Using geo-tracking technology, visitors and hotel guests with the Marriott Mobile Guest Services app will receive personalized offers based on their precise location within in the hotel.  LocalPerks launches July 24 at the San Diego Marriott Marquis and Marina followed by the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront and Marco Island Marriott Beach Resort, Golf Club & Spa. To celebrate the launch of LocalPerks, guests will receive an invitation to a LocalPerks Lounge, open from 2:00pm to 6:00pm, July 24-27, 2014, hosted by Marriott Rewards at the San Diego Marriott Marquis and Marina. The LocalPerks Lounge will provide charging stations, complimentary snacks, access to iPads, a “gif” photo booth, and amenities. The Marriott Mobile Guest Services app is available through iTunes and compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch.


This FlashPerks sounds like Marriott’s version of SPG’s Moments, but with insane number of points required for purchasing something from these flash sales.

The problem with the Marriott is that they have completely lost the “Next Gen” travelers. I don’t know anybody under 40 that actually prefers staying at their mostly cookie cutter properties. They tend to prefer SPG and Hyatt or swankier boutique hotels.

Let’s hope that there are some good deals to be had on the FlashPerks sales. I will cover all the sales in the coming 12 weeks.
