When I asked at the Le Meridien Jakarta this week the reason behind the SPG Awareness Week that they have been celebrating, I was told that it was due to SPG turning 15 years.
Lo and behold, the program really is only 15 years old and was launched back in 1999. The Starwood Capital Partners, now likely just Starwood Capital and a separate from Starwood Hotels and Resorts, was founded in 1991.
You can read more about Starwood and SPG history here.
After doing some Google searches, seems that properties might have these “SPG Awareness Weeks” yearly. SPG doesn’t, however, have dedicated website for this.
The above information was posted on Le Meridien Jakarta’s Facebook page.
If you happened to be at the property this past Thursday, you could have received an additional 500 points and chance of winning an additional 2,500.
The property had SPG displays all over the place in the lobby and many employees were wearing SPG buttons.
One would hope some special promo from SPG to celebrate this milestone. At least they are running small promos at the properties if you happen to be there on the day they are giving some Starpoints out.
