Hyatt run Endless Possibilities promotion for free night certificates or bonus points early this year. The promo was valid for stays between January 15 and April 30, 2014.
The promotional category 1-4 awards must be used by July 31, 2014, or they expire.
You can access Hyatt’s web page for this offer here.
I have already previously written about the booking issues with this award type (access here) and seems that Hyatt never fixed it.
Here’s my experience booking the Endless Possibilities promotional award:
The online system correctly displayed the earned award.
When you try to use the booking link, the hotel doesn’t show any availability and only returns the Diamond guarantee rate.
When you use the regular search, paid and award rates are both available.
Well. I decided that it would be time to call the Hyatt Gold Passport/reservations. Seems that Hyatt has issues or is blocking calls to their toll free numbers when one uses Skype. The general reservations number and the Diamond one both returned a busy signal after some initial greetings. I was able to get through using some number that was dedicated for Hyatt.com. All these calls are answered by the same pool of Hyatt call center employees, so it doesn’t really matter what number works.
The agent confirmed that the availability did exist and made the booking.
The text that the Hyatt.com returns when you try to book any of these promotional awards is highly misleading. This issue has persisted, but Hyatt has not done anything to fix it. There must be many awards expiring this month due to members being misinformed about the availability by Hyatt’s own website.
It is disturbing if Hyatt has decided to block calls made using Skype to reach their US numbers. I normally use Skype and call the US ones regardless whether the company has presence in the country/region where I happen to be in.
