The Westin Diplomat Resort & Spa Leaves Starwood On October 29 To Become Hilton Curio Collection Hotel

The now former owner of the Westin Diplomat Resort & Spa sold the property to Thayer Lodging Group for around half a billion dollars this past week.

The Westin Diplomat Hilton Curio Collection

The new owner is spending $100 million to upgrade the property starting later this year and it will become Hilton Curio collection hotel soon after leaving Starwood chain on October 30, 2014.

You can access the Starwood’s web page for this property here and Hilton Curio collection web page here.

Paid reservations that are done on non-SPG member rates will be honored after the property exits Starwood, but guests will not receive Starpoints or any status related benefits after the switch over date. The property will not honor any Starwood award reservations after the October 30, 2014 date.

You can contact Starwood using email address executive.guest.service@starwoodhotels.com or calls 877-782-0131 (US) or +353-21-6014580 (Ireland) to discus about your options. Starwood is not willing to relocate the affected guests at the same award levels to comparable local SPG alternatives that is a shame.

Conclusion

The former owner must have had a clause on their contract that if the property is sold the new owner can cancel the Starwood contract at very short notice and that is what seems to be happening here.

It is unfortunate that guests that have booked award reservations over the winter period are the most affected and Starwood is not willing to give any consideration to relocating the guests
