American Airlines has an offer out for a maximum of 35% discount on the price of sharing miles between accounts by September 30, 2014. You can get 35% discount for sharing 25,000 mile.

Offer like this makes absolutely no sense at all. You are just paying to move miles between accounts and it won’t generate more miles. American will just collect some cash in the process.

You can just issue an award for somebody else from your account rather than wasting cash by transferring miles. If someone is short of miles in his/her account, just wait for the next purchase bonus and buy them at the time.

AAdvantage members must share at least 5,000 AAdvantage miles or more in a single transaction from the shareAAmiles® program beginning 12:00 am CT August 25, 2014, to 11:00 pm CT September 30, 2014 to be eligible for a discount. Discount applies only to mileage transfer cost and does not apply toward the $35 transaction processing charge. The recipient of the shared miles will receive the applicable bonus miles. Transactions are nonrefundable and nonreversible. AAdvantage accounts less than 14 days old are not permitted to Share miles. Allow 72 hours for the AAdvantage miles transferred under the shareAAmiles program to be posted to the recipient’s AAdvantage account. There is no limit to the number of transactions allowed during the offer period. Each AAdvantage member is limited to sharing or receiving, in a calendar year, a combined total of no more than one-hundred thousand (100,000) AAdvantage miles. Miles Transferred or Bonus miles earned as part of the shareAAmiles program do not count toward the 100,000 mile annual Share limit. The miles transferred with the shareAAmiles program do not count towards AAdvantage Gold, AAdvantage Platinum, AAdvantage Executive Platinum or AAdvantage Million MilerSM status qualification.
