JetBlue sent out an email over the weekend announcing that the minimum award price is now 3,500 TrueBlue points instead of 5,000.
JetBlue prices TrueBlue award dynamically based on the paid fare for the flight in question. When I looked into this last time, the value of a JetBlue point was 1.3 to 1.4 cents each.
Enjoy the highs (flying!) and lows (fewer points!) of Award Flight redemption! It’s true – we’ve lowered the amount of TrueBlue points needed for select Award Travel. One-way flights to great JetBlue destinations once started at 5,000 points, but now you can start redeeming for just 3,500 points (+ 5.60 taxes/fees). We’re always looking for new ways to show you how much your loyalty means to us, and our new, lower Award Flight minimum makes it easier for you to take advantage of the points you’ve earned.
This change doesn’t mean that there will be plenty of flights at 3,500 TrueBlue points level. If the 1.3 to 1.4 cents valuation is still in place, the flights that are around $45 before taxes/fees (short-haul one-ways between competitive cities) may cost now 3,500 points instead the previous minimum of 5,000 points
