Hilton HHonors used to offer fixed number of Virgin Club miles for stays and it often made sense to collect miles and later convert them back to Hilton HHonors points.
Hilton HHonors changed the double dip program (ditched the fixed earnings) and Virgin Atlantic changed the conversion rate of Flying Club miles to HHonors points from 2 points per 1 miles to 1,5 points per mile earlier this year.
You can access the latest Hilton HHonors Virgin Atlantic Flying Club promo piece here.
Now, however, Virgin Atlantic has new offer for up to 15,000 bonus miles for 5 Hilton stays that is on average 3,000 bonus miles per stay that you could later turn to 4,500 Hilton HHonors points per stay.
Let’s say that you have 5 Hilton stays and each is $200.
1. Double Dip option Points + Points. You earn additional 5 Hilton HHonors points per USD charged. The total spend for these 5 stays would be $1,000 that is 5,000 bonus points.
2. Double Dip option Points + Miles and Virgin Atlantic as the partner. You would earn 15,000 bonus miles + 2,000 base miles (two miles per USD). This would be 25,500 Hilton HHonors points.
Note that you can only convert in the chunks for 10,000 Virgin Atlantic Flying Club miles to 15,000 Hilton HHonors points. You must left some Virgin Atlantic miles sitting on their account if your goal is to maximize the Hilton HHonors point earnings.
So, if your Hilton stays are on the cheaper side, it still make sense to credit to Virgin Atlantic Flying Club during this promo and later convert the miles back to Hilton HHonors points. As my simple example above illustrates, you can earn a lot more Hilton HHonors points this way.
