IHG has very lucrative Best Rate Guarantee program if you can find a lower price on a 3rd party site and can navigate through the complicated requirements to claim a free first night.
The program terms and conditions have changed numerous times since the launch of this guarantee and the latest update was done yesterday, although on the website it is backdated to September 8, 2014.

Here are two changes:
Requirement of an approved credit card is changed to valid form of payment. Nothing serious here.
2. Claim Filing
In practice due to 24 to 70 hour processing time, it has been practically impossible to get claims approved within the day of arrival. Now, IHG has instituted a requirement of filing them at minimum 24 hours of hotel’s standard check in time.
The claim processing time has jumped from the promised 24 hours to 48 to 60 hours in the past month or so and getting a claim approved within 24 hours of arrival is impossible. I would like to, however, see IHG adequately manning the Best Rate Guarantee department so that the claims would be processed promptly. This is not currently the case.
