Ever since Le Club Accorhotels discontinued the instant Platinum sign ups late November 2013, the only way to get the status has been by actually staying at their hotels.
Now that Le Club Accorhotels has very lucrative offer with Air Canada Aeroplan for 5,000 miles (read more here) it may have opened a real fast track to Gold and Platinum status.
You can access Le Club Accorhotels website for various status levels here.
The way these Le Club Accorhotels airline related bonus offers work is that the number of points required for the bonus miles are first deposited to your account and then swept to airline miles.
Apparently, all points earned (based on the reader email that I received) count towards the status. If this is true, you would earn Gold status after just ONE stay and Platinum status after just THREE.
Sometimes all these promotions from loyalty programs have unintended side effects. Getting Gold status after just one stay and Platinum after three it almost too good to be true considering that you earn minimum of 15,000 miles in the process.
I am checking this out this weekend by checking in three times to ibis hotels (not actually staying!). So, you can expect to see an update on this issue sometime next week.
