This has to be the most ridiculous New Years Eve mandatory charge ever.
A LoyaltyLobby reader sent me a screenshot of his proposed stay at the Hyatt property in Dubai for this New Year’s eve.
You can access Hyatt Regency Dubai’s website here.
So, if you have family of two adults and two kids, you must pay roughly $580 in top of the inflated room rate and minimum of 3 nights stay to take part of the New Year’s buffet dinner and the lobby countdown party, which being in the lobby probably would not be anything special.
In actuality, the cost would be higher as the room will only allow 3 guests. So a family of 4 would probably have to pay a surcharge or take another room.
Have you seen more outrageous fees for a “festive” dinner over Christmas or New Years Eve that are mandatory? You can always drop me an email.
I have stayed at this property couple of times and it is perfectly fine for a Hyatt Regency. It is in the older part of the “original” Dubai and the property itself, although renovated fairly recently, is one of the oldest hotels in the city.
It is not the type of property that I would choose to celebrate New Years in especially with these extra charges that they try to sneak in.
