Alitalia MilleMiglia members have been able to earn and redeem miles on flights operated by a Brazilian airline Gol starting December 12, 2014.
Gol Smiles members must have the same reciprocal benefits on flights operated by Alitalia, but couldn’t find any info on Gol’s website.
You can access Alitalia’s web page for this partnership here.
Note that you can only earn award miles on Gol flights and not elite qualifying ones.
The number of miles earned is dependent of the fare class per the table below:
You can use MilleMiglia miles for Gol flights per the table below:
Gol is alliance independent Brazilian airline, although Delta Air Lines owns a stake of it, that flies to destination in Brazil and South America. The airline operates frequent flier program called Smiles that came from the now defunct Brazilian airline Varig (Gol bought some assets).
I believe that this is a good news fro Alitalia frequent fliers that now have more opportunities to use their miles for flights within South America, although the number of miles required for these award flights seem rather high.
