Expedia has released “Preparing For Take Off: Air Travel Trends 2015” white paper that looks into the data and trends to predict what might be coming our way in 2015.
Although you should always question white papers as they are often nothing more than marketing vehicles for organizations releasing them, this one from Expedia is worth reading.
You can access Expedia’s website for this study here.
The report indicates that on average the domestic US air fares are cheapest when bought roughly 50 days in advance.
When buying international air fares, the fares seem to be flat right up to 100 days before the flight and start a steady climb from that date.
There was one other indication that many travelers have already realized. The price difference between economy and premium cabins is shrinking from what it has traditionally been.
This Expedia white paper is mostly advertising free read, as long as you forget the “packages” part that they seem to be pushing. There is nothing really groundbreaking in this report, but it is nicely done package.
