Since I started my business travel in the early 1990’s (time certainly flies!), I have always tried to combine business trips with a few days of personal time.
What could be better? Business pays for the airline and hotels during the business part of the trip and you only pay out of your own pocket for a few hotel nights.
The CES in Las Vegas was in the news over the past week. That used to be great way to get some time off in Los Angeles over the harsh winters in Northern Europe before or after the Las Vegas part. I used to go to the Spring one in Chicago as well that was scrapped when E3 started (first in Atlanta).

Over the past few days, I have been in the North Eastern China in Harbin for the annual Ice and Snow festival. The weather is rather cold, but definitely worth the two hour plane trek from Beijing.
Do you try to combine business trips with personal ones?
Of course it helps if your business trips are to cities and regions that are worthy of spending some time in. Most of the conferences and expos that I have participated over the years tend to be in cities that are worth spending some personal time in or easy to jump out of.
It is easier for these event organizers to get people come if they are held in cities that people prefer visiting.
