Orbitz Rewards Platinum Benefit Upgrade: $50 Orbucks Baggage Free Credit


Orbitz has been promoting its Orbitz Rewards heavily as of late by offering Orbucks credits for flight and sometimes hotel purchases as well.

Orbitz Rewards has Silver (base), Gold and Platinum levels on its rewards program. The status depends on the number of hotel nights you book with the company over a calendar year.

Orbitz Rewards Platinum Benefit

Orbitz has now added a benefit of $50 in Orbucks for baggage fees that Platinum members incur on flight purchases made via Orbitz after January 1, 2015.


The Gold and Platinum benefits that Orbitz offers for its “elite” members are super soft. I had some Orbucks expiring last year and booked a hostel for five nights. I never checked in, but the nights counted towards the “status” and made me a Platinum.

If you end up paying for bag fees, there is nothing wrong getting them reimbursed in Orbucks that you can then use with coupon towards a hotel booking.

Here are the terms and conditions of this baggage benefit:

As a tier benefit, Platinum members are eligible to receive up to $50 in Bonus Orbucks each calendar year (January 1-December 31) as reimbursement for qualifying checked bag fees incurred during the calendar year. Checked bag fees must have been incurred on stand-alone flight bookings or flights booked as part of a vacation package made on Orbitz.com or the Orbitz mobile app beginning January 1, 2015. You must have Platinum status at the time the claim is submitted to be eligible for this benefit. You may submit a claim by using the “Zap that Bag Fee” feature on the Orbitz mobile app or by emailing your claim to Zapthatbagfee@orbitz.com. For claims made via the Orbitz mobile app, you must first download the app if you have not already, then log in to your Orbitz Rewards account in the app, and follow the instructions on the “Zap that Bag Fee” feature on your My Orbitz Rewards page to take a photo of the qualifying bag fee receipt and submit. For claims made via email, send an email to Zapthatbagfee@orbitz.com that includes your first name, last name, Orbitz Rewards email address, and record locator number of the flight booked through Orbitz.com in the body of the email, and attach a photo of your paid bag fee receipt to your email. These Bonus Orbucks will expire if not redeemed within 60 days of issuance. Offer is non-transferrable and not redeemable for cash. Expect a response to your claim within 48 hours. Once verified, Bonus Orbucks will be deposited in your Orbitz Rewards account within approximately 7-10 business days.
