Changes Coming To Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) Platinum Benefits At 50 Nights Level

Seems that Starwood has finally realized that the Suite Night Awards (SNA’s) are borderline useless and will allow Platinum members that qualify for 50 nights in 2015 to choose their preferred award.

SPG Platinum 50 Benefit Change (Selection)

The qualification criteria for SPG Platinum status is 25 stays or 50 nights. Many qualify based on the nights, but some will under the stays.

You can access Starwood web page for this benefit here.

SPG Platinum 50 Benefit Change (Selection) Text

We won’t know the selection of the available offers that can change from time to time before someone qualifies this year and logs in to that website sometime in March and makes his/her selection (and hopefully takes and emails me a screenshot).

Conclusion

When I qualified for the Ambassador few years ago, I hoped that one could make a similar selection between signing up for the Ambassador or earning some bonus points. I would have chosen the latter in a heartbeat.

Some may argue that Suite Night Awards have been invaluable for them and that might be the case for some. The suite night allocation for SNA’s is not the same as available standard suites for sale. Also, even when you used SNA and got upgraded, you probably would have been upgraded regardless.

I am glad that the SNA fiasco is slowly sinking in to the people running the program. It was a brilliant idea, but the implementation has left a lot to be desired.
