Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer members can start redeeming their miles for Scoot and Tigerair vouchers that can be used to pay for flights this coming April.
KrisFlyer members can also earn award miles for flights taken with these two low cost airlines sometime later this year.
You can access Singapore Airlines announcement for this new partnership here.
Singapore Airlines, SilkAir, Scoot and Tigerair are all part of the same group. SilkAir is the regional carrier for Singapore Airlines where it cannot fly its widebody jets profitability (smaller cities).
Scoot competes on the mid-haul flights using widebody aircraft against discount airlines such as AirAsia X.
I have never quite understood the positioning of Tigerair, however. Several years back, I was supposed to fly with them from Bangkok to Singapore but the flight was delayed by hours and ended up refunding the ticket and flying on AirAsia instead.
The number of KrisFlyer miles that you earn for Scoot and Tigerair flights must be rather minimal or you only earn them for flex-type fares. Only the time will tel.
